St. Michael School is a Christ-centered community inspiring future leaders through academic excellence strengthened by faith.
Wonderful for Julian (7th grade student) to be recognized by the Catholic Voice, our Diocese of Oakland newspaper for his project entry at the Diocese of Oakland Science Fair at St. Joseph Notre Dame High School.
Dear St. Michael School Families,
We are in our 3rd week of Lent; a time for quiet reflection, prayer, fasting, and serving those in need. We are also now in a place where we find ourselves fasting from being with large groups of people and perhaps being home more. As the news and social media fill our lives, I hope that you will join me in quiet reflection and prayer. Let's pray with gratitude for our good health, let's pray for all those affected by the virus and their families, let us pray for all healthcare workers, let's pray for all those who may now be homebound and suffering from anxiety. Let us lift up our prayers and place our worries in the loving arms of our Father with whom we trust.
I do ask that you please check your email once or twice a day for any updates that I may send during this time of fluid health concern. As a Diocese, are main areas of focus are: Health and Safety, Equity of Opportunity, and Sustained Learning.
Health and Safety
I am in contact with our cleaning service crew daily to ensure that all public areas are being properly disinfected, our teachers and our middle school students are helping with a mid-day and end of day wipe down of classroom tables and desks, and sared items such as Chromebooks. In addition, both faculty and students who are fighting off colds are staying home. We also continue to monitor hand washing and use of antibacterial hand sanitizer.
We are also following the recommendations put forth by Bishop Michael Barber, SJ and our Pastor, Father Carl. We will not have any large gatherings. Therefore, Shamrock Bingo has been cancelled. We will continue to attend Mass; students are using hand sanitizer before and after, and there is no hand contact.
Equity of Opportunity/Sustained Learning
We are committed to continuing the children's education. If we were to close, the teachers would be providing materials for the students while they are at home. Most of the materials, with the exception of our littlest students, will be online/distance learning. If you do not have a computer and/or wifi for your child to use at home, please let me know. We will then have an alternative plan for your child to continue learning. We want to make sure everyone has equal opportunity for quality learning to continue. In addition, teachers would be sending home textbooks and other materials to supplement the at home learning process.
Please remember that tomorrow and Monday are already holidays. We will return to school on Tuesday wearing our green and white in celebration of St. Patrick's Day.
Blessings of Christ's Peace and Love,
Alison
Tonight at 6 pm in the S.T.R.E.A.M. room we'll be having our next PTG meeting. Please come and join the conversation and get involved with topics that can affect your family.
We will be reviewing future events such as Shamrock Bingo and Tabletop and how the Coronavirus outbreak may affect them. We will also be brainstorming the logistics of starting Courtyard Drive-Thru Pick Up.
For the entire month of March please donate any of the following items.
Macaroni & Cheese, Canned Soups, Canned Fruits/Vegetables, and Cereals/Oatmeal.
Please ensure that the items have not expired.
